Text: “And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.” – Exodus 5:2.
Comment: The Almighty God sent Moses and Aaron to tell King Pharaoh of Egypt to release the children of Israel from bondage. (Exodus 5:1) But he flagrantly disobeyed this instruction and made the blasphemous statement in the text for today. Consequently, he and his people suffered various afflictions from God Almighty. (Exodus 7:11) After the tenth plague, Pharaoh backpedaled and allowed the Israelites to go. (Exodus 12:29-31) In his stubbornness, he and his host pursued after the Israelites but were destroyed by God in the red sea. (Exodus 14:1-31) We should learn the hard lesson from what happened to the Egyptians so that we may not experience such afflictions. – See Romans 15:4; 9:17.
