Text: “Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.” – 2 John 8.
Comment: The parable of the “Penny Reward” clearly indicates that it is not the volume of work one does or the length of time spent in the service of God that matters but the quality of the work in the sight of God. St. Paul warned Christians to be careful in what they do in the service of God so that they might obtain a full reward. (1 Corinthians 3:12-15) The Apostle further admonishes: “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” – 1 Corinthians 9:24-27; 1 Timothy 4:16.
