Theme: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PASSOVER

Text: “For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake”. – Philippians 1:29.

Comment: Working out one’s salvation is not a walk in the park, neither is it a pleasure ride all the way. There comes a time when “Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.” (1Corinthians 3:13) The patriarch, Job, asked: “What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” (Job 2:10; Matthew 10:38) Our resolve to show resilience in place of despair, proves the very essence of faith, by the grace of God. (Hebrews 10:35,38,39) The sufferings by way of buffeting and affliction, all at Satan’s instance, are typified by “bitter herbs”, another item that constitutes the Passover meal, as recorded in Exodus 12:8. Whichever way these trials come, our encouragement is in the assurance that: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1; Revelation 3:10.
