Theme: THE BLESSING IN DOING WHAT WE HEAR

Text: “For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: but this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.” – Jeremiah 7:22, 23.

Comment: Not doing what God instructs is outright disobedience. What God expected from the Jews (when He brought them out of Egypt) was obedience by carrying out His instructions to the letter, but the Jews refused. “And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them? I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them…” (Numbers 14:11, 12) They bore the consequences of their actions including being carried to captivity by the King of Assyria. (2 Kings 18:11-12). When God’s instructions, laws and commandments are kept or carried out by a people such people would be acknowledged as a wise and understanding nation and would enjoy His favours. – Deuteronomy 4:5, 6.
