Theme: THE BLESSING IN DOING WHAT WE HEAR

Text: “Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” – Philippians 4:9.

Comment: The text for today was a charge by St Paul to the effect that the things we have been taught (either by precept or practical example) should be carried out in our lives. The essence of sermons preached to us during divine services are not for the purpose of admiring the pleasant voice of the preacher, nor listening to the eloquence in delivering the sermon. No! Rather, it is for the purpose of understanding the spiritual import of the sermon in our lives as practical Christians. King David says: “Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.” (Psalm 119:34). We should not be like the Jews who congregated excitedly to listen to the preaching of Ezekiel the prophet, but would not do what was preached to them. – Ezekiel 33:31-33.
