Theme: THE DANGER OF APOSTASY

Text: “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” – Isaiah 14:12-14.

Comment: Inordinate ambition and lust for power led Lucifer to lose his exalted place in heaven as he desired to be like God Almighty. Satan became the first apostate as he rebelled against the Divine hierarchy. The result of his failed ambition led to his banishment from heaven. Christians are expected to be humble and submissive to the hierarchy that exists in God’s organization. If one desires to serve in any high position, such one should be humble, work hard and pray to God Almighty who gives promotions in His due time. (Psalm 75:6) Therefore, inordinate ambitions lead to apostasy as many who strife for positions in the Church do so for selfish reasons and when their desires are not met, they criticize the Church, and in extreme cases abandon the faith.
