Text: “The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.” – Proverbs 14:15.
Comment: In today’s verse, there is a comparison between the “simple”, and the “prudent”. The simple person is a person who does not give time to think deeply on serious issues, believe everything they hear. But a wise person considers a matter from all angles before taking a decision. This happens at different levels. The first is about doctrines or biblical interpretations. A person who is not prudent according to the Bible can believe anything and so will be tossed and carried about by every wind of doctrine. (Ephesians 4:14) Rather we should be like the followers in Berea who “searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so”. (Acts 17:10-12; 1 John 4:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:21) At another level, if we are not wise or prudent, we may be guilty of hasty judgment when dealing with a matter or when we hear something about somebody. – Proverbs 20:19-25; 29:20; Deuteronomy 19:18; 1:17; Proverbs 18:13.
