FOREWARD

As one of the Churches of the Saints, the God’s Kingdom Society, (GKS), The Church of the Living God, is duty-bound to use all resources and opportunities which the Lord provides to advance the cause of evangelism. This booklet, God’s Word: A Lamp To My Feet, is one such avenue for spreading the word of God. It has become an invaluable tool for admonishing and encouraging the people of God in line with St. Paul’s advice that we should be exhorting one another daily, and so much the more as we see the day of reckoning approaching. – Hebrews 10:25; 13:22.

The first in the list of contents is the theme ‘Greed”, carried over from the last edition. The theme is particularly relevant in this age of materialism, when the guiding philosophy of many people is to get rich as quickly as possible.  To warn people against the vices arising from self-will, selfishness and the overwhelming desire to have more money or material things than they actually need, we have added the theme, “Avoiding Anti-social Behaviour”. The essence of this theme is that we should not do to others what we do not want them to do to us – which also is addressed in the theme, “The Golden Rule”.  The danger of not loving our neighbours as ourselves is that it leads to “ANXIETY”, which is ameliorated by a climate of orderliness, fairness and fellow-feeling in society, hence the theme, “Christianity and Social Justice”. But because civilized behaviour has to be based on the fear of God for it to be truly effective or meaningful, we have followed the discourses on social justice with the theme, “Working out our Salvation with Fear and Trembling” and the “The Power of Knowledge”.

To enable us to prepare ourselves for future challenges and opportunities, we have included the theme, “Planning for the Future”. We have other topics which are also of high spiritual benefit to our readers. These include, “Coping with Chronic Illness”, “The Secret of True Prosperity”, “The Danger of Hypocrisy” and “Integrity”.

We thank God that the idea of packaging the GKS devotional guide as a bi-annual publication has been generally well received by our reading public; we pray God to continue to provide us with the wisdom and the means to sustain the publication. We shall heartily welcome financial support from one and all to enable the publication, reach our increasing number of subscribers by His grace. – Isaiah 32:8; Revelation 22:17; Psalm 68:11.

Once again, we thank officials of the GKS Press who, in spite of our several importunities and short deadlines, still manage to produce in good time what has now become an invaluable spiritual aid or companion to many people of goodwill by His grace. May God bless you all.
