GKS Celebrates The Christian Feast Of Tabernacles

Thousands of celebrants from within and outside Nigeria will be converging in Salem City, Warri, Delta State, Nigeria for the Christian Feast of Tabernacles, an annual observance by members of God’s Kingdom Society (GKS) –  the Church of the living God. The celebration will this year hold from Sunday December 15 to Sunday December 22, 2019, by the grace of God.

The typical Feast of Tabernacles was an annual religious festival which God Almighty instituted through His prophet Moses during the exodus from Egypt to Canaan for the natural Jews to observe throughout their generations. The Feast was a memorial of that historic journey, when they dwelt in booths or “tabernacles” – temporary shelters constructed from the branches and leaves of trees. During the eight-day festival, also called the Feast of Ingathering,  the Jews were commanded to show appreciation to God by way of material gifts and to rejoice for His blessings on them during the year.  –  Leviticus 23:33-44; Deuteronomy 16: 13-17; Exodus 23:16.

All Families of the earth

In course of time, God specifically commanded that all peoples of the earth, irrespective of creed, nationality and race, should celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles for their own blessings, as the divine record states: “And it shall come to pass, that everyone that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain. And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.” – Zechariah 14:16-19.

It is evident from the foregoing prophecy, which finds fulfilment in this age of the end of the world, that the Feast of Tabernacles is not meant exclusively for the Jews as the ordinance embraces all peoples or nations of the world in this era. Today, Christians do not have to travel to the land of Israel to observe the Feast of Tabernacles, as “Jerusalem” in the prophecy under reference represents “the New Jerusalem” which is the Kingdom of God that is now established on earth as the place of refuge and salvation for the people of God in these perilous times. (John 4:20-24; Galatians 4:26; Revelation 21:1-3; etc) The term “rain” is synonymous with “dew of heaven” and “showers of blessing” and symbolises God’s manifold blessings on those who celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. (See Genesis 27:28; Deuteronomy 33:13; Ezekiel 34:26; Malachi 3:10; etc). All those who observe the Feast of Tabernacles are protected and blessed by God from year to year. “Egypt” means those who do not know God. – Revelation 11:8.

Burnt offerings

Christians are not to make burnt sacrifices as the Jews of old did during the Feast as required by the Mosaic law since our Lord Jesus Christ. has by his death put an end to that law. (John 1:17, 29; Galatians 3: 24, 25)  (Hebrews 10: 10-12)  Because Christians now follow the spirit and not the letters of the law, we celebrate the Feast in mid-December, when weather conditions are more favorable for outdoor activities and not in September/October which answers to the seventh month in the Hebrew calendar. – Leviticus 23:33,34, 39; Numbers 29:12; Nehemiah 8:14; Jeremiah 31:31-33; Galatians 2:16; 2 Corinthians 3:5,6.

The Feast of Christ

St. Paul described Jesus Christ as the “greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building”. (Hebrews 8:2,3; 9:11; Leviticus 26:11; Ezekiel 37:27; Revelation 21:1-3; etc.). The Feast of Tabernacles is thus of great importance to God’s worshippers as it is being held in honour of God Almighty and His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ..

The active participation of our Lord Jesus Christ at the Feast of Tabernacles is of great significance as he thereby set an example for Christians to follow. See John 13:15; John 7:14-17.

The most important feature of the Christian Feast of Tabernacles is the preaching or expounding of the truth that enables worshippers to learn the fear of God and practise His righteousness. –Deuteronomy 31:10-13

The high point of the Feast is the Last and Great Day holy convocation during which the GKS President, Brother Godwin Ifeacho, will deliver the 2019 Feast address, entitled, “Since God Sees Our Hearts In All We Do, We Should Beware

“And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.” – Ezekiel 34:26.

Can you afford to miss this important Feast – the Feast of blessings?  You certainly cannot!  You are therefore cordially invited.
