Text: “And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence towards God, and towards men.” – Acts 24:16.
Comment. In the course of his life and work as an apostle of Christ, including times of difficulties when he faced persecutions, and threats to his life, St. Paul, an erudite servant of God never missed the opportunity to let the leaders and people of his time know that he lived a life guided by good conscience, and void of offense, as he testified in the text for today. Furthermore, we can see clearly that it was the confidence he had because of a clear conscience that inspired what is now termed his valedictory submission shortly before his death as recorded in 2 Timothy 4:7, 8. God’s people should aspire to live a life influenced by a clear conscience such that at the end, we can confidently say that we have braved the odds, made sacrifices in the Lord’s service, done the will of God, and confidently look forward to receiving the penny reward by His grace. See Revelation 22:12; Matthew 20:1-16.
