Text: “And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgiving, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps”. – Nehemiah 12:27.
Comment: Nehemiah, who organised the Israelites to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, also organised the Levites to sing and play music as stated in the main text for today. To boost and expand the “company of them that gave thanks”, he appointed two sets of choristers. (verse 31) Their performance made the dedication of the walls even more glorious and joyful. (Nehemiah 12:40-47) It is therefore evident that the Almighty God is pleased with His worshippers whenever they enthusiastically sing songs of praise to Him. The Psalmist stated: “Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.” – Psalm 147:1.
