Theme: WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A CHRISTIAN
Text: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” – Matthew 7:12.
Comment: One of the basic requirements of the Christian faith is the practise of the “Golden Rule” or the “Royal Law”. As stated in the leading text, we are expected to treat others the way we want to be treated. Anything we would not be happy about; we should not do the same to others. The importance of the Golden Rule is that Christians should be selfless and care for one another’s welfare. “Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law…and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.” – Romans 13:8-10. See also Matthew 22:37-40; 1 John 2:9-11; 3:15-18.
