Theme: IT IS A GOOD THING TO GIVE THANKS UNTO THE LORD
Text: “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.” – Psalm 136:1-3.
Comment: In one of his famous psalms of thanksgiving, the Sweet Psalmist highlights sundry reasons that naturally inspires a thankful heart to give thanks to God Almighty, propelling one to reflect on the lyrics and easily relate with them. Included among many reasons are miraculous deliverances, His works of creation, promotion, provision of our daily bread, etc., adding that, all of these are at the instance of God’s unfailing mercy. (Psalm 136:1-26) He had composed a similar rendition in Psalm 103:1-22. We should acknowledge and appreciate God’s mercies by extolling His Holy name and using our God-given resources – spiritually and otherwise – to promote the course of truth and righteousness. “I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.” – Psalm 104:33, 34.
