Text: “Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.” – Matthew 23:28.
Comment: Some persons appear to be righteous outwardly while in fact they are the very opposite of what they profess. They know how to say sweet things about God Almighty and how to sing beautifully to extol the name of God as well as how to compel people by rebuke to keep the laws of God, yet their ears are very far from God, “being filled with all uncleanness and iniquity”. Such was the case with the Scribes and Pharisees for which Jesus Christ denounced them. (Matthew 23:25-27) They may succeed in deceiving men, but cannot deceive God. (Galatians 6:7) Whatever worship such persons give to God will not be accepted by Him because He knows their hearts. (Luke 16:15; Matthew 15:7-9) As worshippers of God, we should guard against holier-than-thou attitude, be true to ourselves, accept our flaws, make amends and strive to practise the righteousness of God so as to be saved. – Matthew 5:20; 23: 1-3.
