Text: “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.” – 2 Corinthians 13:5-6.
Comment: Self-examination takes place in the heart when we ponder on our ways, actions, utterances and lifestyle so as to know areas where we are not living up to God’s expectation and make amends for good. Being humans who are prone to make mistake, we should ponder over our ways at the end of each day. King David stated: “I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.” (Psalm 77:6; 4:4) Ultimately, we need the help of God to have a heart that is channelled towards righteousness. The Psalmist prayed: “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” – Psalm 139:23, 24.
