Theme: THE DANGER OF APOSTASY

Text: “For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.” – Jeremiah 7:22, 23.

Comment: The natural Jews at a time forsook the laws of God and preferred to make sacrifices for their sins. This displeased God Almighty Who through the Prophet Jeremiah reminded them of the major qualities required for His worshippers – which is the doing of righteousness, and not the offering of sacrifices with sinful hands. (Isaiah 1:17-20) Many Christians like the Jews of old brazenly flout God’s laws and then turn back to make huge donations and offer gifts in the Church. The danger in this kind of worship is that such one drifts gradually away from God’s grace, without knowing, he or she becomes apostate and is no longer pricked when he commits sin. This is very dangerous and should be avoided by all means. – 1 Timothy 4:1, 2; Hosea 6:6, 7.
