Theme: THE DANGER OF APOSTASY

Text: “And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.” – Acts 1:24, 25.

Comment: Judas Iscariot was one of the twelve apostles Jesus Christ chose to work in the ministry of propagating the gospel of salvation – a position of the highest honour. (Mark 3:14; Luke 6:13) Judas lost his place as he allowed Satan the devil to harden his heart to commit evil, by betraying his master for 30 pieces of silver. When we are entrusted with any position, we should not see ourselves as indispensable, when we do, we become arrogant and then, there will be fall. (1 Corinthians 10:12) Positions have the tendency to make one esteem himself higher than he ought to be, but humility and the fear of God exalt one to even greater heights. (Romans 12:3) Let us, therefore, be sober and keep to God’s ordinances for our own blessings and salvation in the end.  – Proverbs 22:4.
