Theme: THE DANGER OF APOSTASY

Text: “Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying, It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.” – 1 Samuel 15:10, 11.

Comment: By not carrying out God’s instructions to the letter in the issue of the Amalekites, King Saul became an apostate. From then, he started doing the wrong things which included visiting the Witch of Endor, whom he has driven away in his sane days. Saul acknowledged that the spirit of God has left him due to his ways which were no longer fashioned to righteousness. (1 Samuel 28:6, 7) Christians in positions of authority both within and outside the Church should be sober and adhere to God’s ordinances so as to avoid pride, inordinate ambition and ego which if not checked will lead to arrogance, fall and loss of status or position. This calls for spiritual understanding. “…that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God”. – Colossians 1:9, 10.
