Theme: THE VICE OF WRATH

INTRODUCTION

The Merriam Webster’s English Dictionary defines “wrath” as a strong vengeful anger or indignation. It is a great and violent anger which is a negative emotion. Without a good knowledge of the Scriptures and understanding of the will of God, it will be difficult to realise the extent of fatal harm wrath can do. Therefore, it is of great importance that we should know not only the virtues or qualities that we must possess as true Christians in order to shine in God’s grace, but also the vices or evils that can be the cause of ruin in our lives and on our race of salvation. In the following days, we shall delve into this vice so as to warn, educate and enlighten ourselves on its consequences and the need to avoid it for our own good in the Lord.

Text: “For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.” – Job 5:2.

Comment: Unequivocally, today’s text highlights one of the consequences of wrath. There are many cases in which people have taken a course of action under the excitement of violent anger but later regretted their actions when they become sober. Indeed, many, in the course of their lives may have had such experiences. There are people who because they are offended by their wives or husbands, children or fathers, colleagues or neighbours, and so on, do make attempt to commit suicide, hurt or murder the other party, and some actually do it. They do not know the value of life. (Romans 12:17-21) God alone can give and take life without question. So, those who do so are guilty of God’s judgement and will not go unpunished. – 2 Corinthians 5:10; Hebrews 10:30, 31.
