Theme: AVENGE NOT YOURSELVES
Text: “For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.” – 1 Peter 3:5, 6.
Comment: In the above citation, Apostle Peter gave a prerequisite for a Christian woman to lay claim to being a daughter of Sarah of the Bible, which is, “as long as ye do well”. Seeing that she had conceived for Abraham, Hagar, the handmaid of Sarah began to despise her mistress. But Sarah did not take the law into her own hands but complained to her husband. (Genesis 16:1-6) “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.” (1 Peter 3:1, 2) Christian women in this age should aspire to be like these women of faith so as to be good examples for unbelievers. Scriptures enjoin wives and women generally to “be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things”; “to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children” and that their adorning should “not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price”. – 1 Timothy 3:11; Titus 2:4; 1 Peter 3:3-5.
