Theme: OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS

Text: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30.

Comment: In the text for today, Jesus Christ our Saviour emphasizes the need for God’s worshippers to put absolute confidence in God through him in whatever situation or circumstances we find ourselves. God Almighty is always ready to deliver us from temptations brought on us by the devil. We should not succumb to the appeal of worldly philosophers, necromancers, secret societies, false prophets but to JEHOVAH the Almighty God through Jesus Christ His son. Our Saviour declares: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” – John 10:27-29.

Although prayers have a major role to play in times of trials, one must endeavor to make concerted efforts to avoid sin and awake to righteousness. St. Paul states, “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light… But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.” – Romans 13:11-14, see also 1 Corinthians 15:34; Luke 22:46.
