Theme: Wilful Idleness And Willing Workers

Text: “Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong: that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not his work.” – Jeremiah 22:13.

Comment: Many in the world today became wealthy through diabolical means while others make their money through oppression of their fellow human being. Human trafficking for instance which entails the transporting or coercing people in order to benefit from their services, typically in the form of forced labour or sexual exploitation is one of the ways by which some make stupendous wealth. Human trafficking is estimated to be a $150 billion-dollar global industry, with 109,216 victims identified worldwide in 2020 alone. The quest to get rich quick has made many who do not have the fear of God to indulge in a lot of evil acts that are contrary to God’s will for mankind. Unfortunately, poor governance in many 3rd world countries and the general collapse of morality and fear of God has not helped to stem the current tide among the youth population who prefers any means to get rich while scorning the virtue of hard work. Scripture says, “As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatchet them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at the end shall be a fool.” – Jeremiah 17:11.

Those who indulge in human trafficking should repent thoroughly and turn a new leaf in order to be forgiven by our loving Father. This is because God is against the trafficking of anyone. Deuteronomy 24:7. See also Leviticus 19:13; Luke 3:14.
