Text: “Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace…” – Daniel 3:15.
Comment: This declaration was made by Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon who erected a golden image, and required all his subjects to fall down and worship it. (Daniel 3:1-7) Information was later given him that three Jewish princes were refusing to worship this golden image. (Daniel 3:8-12). For persisting in their refusal despite the rage and threats, the Jews were cast into the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:19-23) His arrogance in asking which God could deliver them was a challenge to the power of the Almighty God and He showed His power by miraculously preserving the three faithful Jews from being consumed by the fire and compelling the King to eat his words. (Daniel 3:24-28) The danger in intolerance is that it may push one to take rash actions on matters for which he does not have proper knowledge and to sin against God to one’s eternal regret and detriment. – Proverbs 18:21; James 2:5,6.
