Theme: BE YE DOERS OF THE WORD

Text: “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock…” – Matthew 7:24-27.

Comment: Being mortals, we are not “sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God”. (2 Corinthians 3:5) When we give ourselves to doing the will of God as stated in His word, then we shall enjoy His protection and other blessings.  God declares through Isaiah the prophet, “He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.” (Isaiah 33:15, 16) The foundation for a united, strong and peaceful society is the doing of the word of God.  The people who do righteousness will continue to make progress in whatever they set out to do. They will enjoy a standard of living higher than that of their neighbours because they are righteously-inclined and enjoy the favour of God. Truly, if people had been doing what God says, the level of social vices would not be as high as it is today, because it is these vices which create disorder and distress in the society.  (Compare Romans 6:16; Jeremiah 2:19) In 2 Chronicles 20:20 the Bible says: “…Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”
