Theme: THE SAVING AND HEALING POWER OF GOD ALMIGHTY
Text: “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.” – Matthew 4:23.
Comment: From a spiritual standpoint, sickness and disease are due to the fall of man at the instance of the devil, meaning that when perfection comes and satan is no more, sicknesses would be no more. Christ told the impotent man he had healed: “Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.” (John 5:14) The prophecy in the book of Isaiah says Christ came to free mankind from the captivities into which they had been bound. (Isaiah 61:1-3; Luke 4:16-21) Thus, in his first advent our Saviour not only preached the gospel to those yearning for salvation, but also demonstrated the power of God to fulfil his promise to free man from the bodily and mental problems facing them. “And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.” (Matthew 4: 24) When God is using his servant, he makes it clear to all people of goodwill that a prophet is among them, so that they may respond to the call to get life. (Matthew 12:28) What the Saviour did in those days shows that nothing is impossible with God, that He is not the cause of our troubles and that what is required of us to gain His favour is to obey His word. – Luke 11:27,28.
