Text: “Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, and Michael, and Azariah his companions: That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.” –Daniel 2:17,18.
Comment: When Daniel was summoned before King Nebuchadnezzar because the wise men of the kingdom could not tell the dream of the king, Daniel’s life was also threatened, as the king was desperate and ready to destroy all the wise men of the kingdom if his dream could not be told and interpreted. Perplexed by this strange request from the king, Daniel rightly consulted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, with whom he shared the same faith as stated in the text for today. In answer to their prayers, God Almighty revealed to Daniel the dream and its interpretation. (Daniel 2:19-22) This whole incident, and the path of consultation with upright and knowledgeable brethren by Daniel holds veritable lessons for children of God. It is a truism that some today when faced with similar circumstances would consult the devil instead of seeking God’s face. People of God when confronted with difficulties should consult knowledgeable brethren of the same faith. See James 5:13-15; Ecclesiastes 4:9,10.
