Theme: THE EXISTENCE OF GOD

Text: “I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from Thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in Thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them,”- Psalm 139: 14-16.

Comment:  The make-up of man has been a source of wonder, not just to the lay man but to those who are advanced in the study of the sciences, and this is attested to by King David as stated in the text. Naturally, every child grows up with the instinctive knowledge of God’s existence. Any attitude later developed against this knowledge is a clear sign of perverse inclination of the mind. St. Paul stated: “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:18-20)  There are more things in heaven and earth to convince us that there is in existence a Supernatural Intelligence, “In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind”. (Job 12:10) “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.” Isaiah 40:22.  We should continue to grow in faith and humility knowing “that the LORD He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture”. – Psalm 100: 3.
