Text: “For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:20.
Comment: Some Christians in respect to their service to God Almighty show piety outwardly but inwardly or secretly they are wicked. They are like the Scribes and Pharisees in the time of Christ. On a certain occasion, Christ was moved to rebuke them: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.” (Matthew 23:27) The text for today charges us not to practise our own righteousness but God’s righteousness, in reflection of His adequate knowledge which we have imbibed. By this, we are not ignorant of God’s righteousness which we must be submissive to, so as to inherit His Kingdom when fully established by His grace and power. – Romans 10:1-3; Proverbs 10:2; 11:4.
