Theme: Self-Examination

Text: “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.  But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”  – James 1:21, 22.

Comment: Those who claim to worship God but indulge in vices such as stealing, murder, bribery and corruption, witchcraft, immorality, envy, hypocrisy, hatred, malice, idolatry and so on are deceiving themselves.  Such ones should rather examine themselves in the light of the word of God and endevour to keep the laws of God. When Christ was preaching in those days, a certain woman who was inspired lifted up her voice and blessed the womb that gave birth to him, but he corrected her thus: “…Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.” – Luke 11:27,28; Romans 2:13.
