Theme: MUSIC IN GOD'S SERVICE

Text: “Let our lord now command thy servants… to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp… Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.” – 1 Samuel 16:16-18.

Comment: If there is one name that brings to mind music of Bible times, it is that of David, “the Sweet Psalmist of Israel”. (2 Samuel 23:1) He was a remarkable man in that he was both a musician and a poet. Over half of the Psalms are attributed to him. Touched by the beauty of God’s creation around the world, David took up his harp and raised his voice in praise to God. It can therefore be appreciated when he wrote in his compositions: “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” (Psalm 139:14-16) Thus, we should magnify God’s holiness and majesty in our songs.
