Theme: Some Noble Christians of the Bible

Text: “Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.” – Acts 9:36.

Comment: Dorcas, also called Tabitha was resident in Joppa, a very prominent city along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Dr. Luke reports that she was full of good works as in the text for today. St. Peter was on a missionary visit to Lydda and while there, two men brought message to him that Dorcas had died. With haste, Peter went to Joppa and met many of the widows weeping, showing the coats and garments that Dorcas made for them while she was alive. (Acts 9: 39). She demonstrated the quality of industry, compassion, charity, selflessness and grace. See Colossians 3:22,23.
