THE SIGNICANCE OF THE NAMES AND TITLES OF GOD ALMIGHTY
Text: “Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.” – 1 Timothy 6:15, 16.
Comment: St. Paul wrote that God Almighty is the “King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God”. (1 Timothy 1:17) Indeed, He is the “great King over all the earth”. (Psalm 47:2) A number of people neglect their duties to God and even disbelieve His existence. But He has, and will continue to teach men that He exists. When the magicians of Pharaoh were contesting with Moses, things got to a point when they confessed that “This is the finger of God”. (Exodus 8:19) In other words, they and the demons using them had been compelled to concede defeat and thus were giving notice that they were withdrawing from the contest. In the days of Jeremiah, the people insisted on doing their will saying they were better off when they were serving idols. To this God declared , “…all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.” (Jeremiah 44:28) Of course the word of the Lord must stand and the nation of Judah was sacked by the king of Babylon, and their king bound in chains and imprisoned in Babylon until the day of his death. People must humble themselves before God and tremble at His word so as to live peacefully on earth. “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker…” – Psalm 95:6, 7.
