Theme: Wilful Idleness And Willing Workers

Text: “Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? And your labour for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.” – Isaiah 55:2.

Comment: Christ, early in his earthly ministry when he was tempted by the Devil, made it clear that spiritual food was more important than the literal food. Indeed, man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. See Matthew 4:3,4. Today, many ignore the word of God, relegate the worship of God to the background because of ‘cares of this world.’ However, no study has shown that attending Church Service and meetings reduces the amount of money one makes from his/her business.

It is the devil that causes financial difficulties in the world, but God’s children know that this is a temporary condition. In His Kingdom fully established, hunger, famine, drought, etc, will be things of the past. Our Lord Jesus Christ enjoins us to prioritize God’s service especially practicing His righteousness, and then all our needs will be added to us. While it is necessary and important to work hard for our daily bread, we should know that without God preserving our lives and giving us good health, we won’t be able to do any physical work by ourselves. For this reason, as we go about the quest for our daily bread, we should endeavour by faith make the service of God and the interest of His kingdom work a priority. – Matthew 6:25, 32, 33.
