Theme: The World to Come

Text: “And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake, Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.” – Luke 18:29, 30.

Comment: After being told to sell everything he had and give them to the poor for a place in the kingdom of God, a wealthy ruler was unhappy that he needed to go this far to inherit eternal life. Accordingly, Peter was curious about what he and the rest of the apostles would benefit for leaving everything, including families, for the kingdom’s interest. Consequently, Jesus Christ offered a ray of hope to the apostles by assuring them of the manifold blessings that would accompany their selfless kingdom service, according to today’s reference text. The work of God calls for sacrifice; putting God’s interest first before ours. And when it comes to the sure promise of eternal life in the World to Come, it should not be traded for anything; not even for one’s personality, fame, wealth, success, or family members. –  Matthew 6:33; 13:44-46.
