Theme: The Essence of Self Comportment

Text: “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Phinehas, the Son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consume not the children of Israel in my jealousy.” – Numbers 25: 10-11

Comment: Zimri and Cozbi died for lack of comportment. At a time when the whole nation of Israel was plagued and were wailing for forgiveness Zimri brought in Cozbi into the camp without fear and without shame to give vent to their wayward impulses. Compare Isaiah 26:10. They died disgracefully because of immorality in that Phinehas, in righteous anger, went in after them and killed both with his javelin.  The Almighty God is a jealous God’ (Exodus 20:5) In His fierce anger He brought upon them the plague that led to the death of 24,000 Jews who broke the law. This act of righteous indignation stayed the fierce anger of God and attracted blessings of God on Phinehas.  – Numbers 25:1-9.
