Theme: THE IMPORTANCE OF THE WORD OF GOD

Text: “Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.” – Isaiah 34:16.

Comment: In today’s text, we are advised to “seek” and “read” the book of the LORD, which is the Holy Bible. The Holy Bible contains the word of God and has been translated into over 704 languages worldwide. Despite this progress, many people do not read the Bible. In a 2019 survey by the American Bible Society, over one-third of American adults (35%) said they never used the Bible outside of a large church service. While this survey does not apply globally, it at least gives a perspective of people’s attitudes towards reading the Bible.

To seek is to search for, in order to find something or someone. Thus, seeking and reading the Bible goes beyond taking it to church services or looking up Bible references. It is the deliberate effort to diligently search through its pages and apply it to every aspect of our lives. (John 5:39) The Bible contains lots of important resources to help us deal with the challenges of life. Within its pages lie solutions to true happiness, peace, wisdom, success, wealth, life, etc.

It is not enough to read the Bible; one must do those things that it contains to be blessed by God. Apostle John stated, “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” – Revelation 1:3.
