Theme: GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT IS GREAT GAIN

Text: “…Exact no more than that which is appointed you.  And the soldiers demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.” – Luke 3:13, 14.

Comment: In this text for today, John the Baptist, admonishes publicans and soldiers to avoid fraudulent practices.  He also warned them to avoid violence and be satisfied with their wages.  This also applies to military personnel and public office holders.  Today, because of greed, we see many political office holders amassing wealth illegally running into billions of naira while those in uniforms engage in bribery and corruption.  These public office holders often award contracts of huge sums of money without carrying them out.  All such monies go to their private pockets.  Some are under prosecution; others are being arrested while many are cooling their heels in various correctional centres.  We should take note that these monies are meant for the betterment of the populace and not for any single individual.  Those who indulge themselves in these fraudulent acts should repent thoroughly so as to gain God’s mercy. – Jeremiah 17:10, 11.
