Theme: BUILDING UP YOURSELVES ON YOUR MOST HOLY FAITH

Text: “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.” – Hebrews 11:13.

Comment: This chapter is a synopsis of the incontrovertible faith displayed by many of God’s servants and maidens of old. Saint Paul defined faith as the “substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Later he said that in order for one to please God, faith is needed on the part of the believer. (Hebrews 11:1,6) The faith by these “ancient faithful” as seen in their works of righteousness serve as shining examples or beacons of hope for generations to come. Apostle Paul declared: “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” (Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11) The works of these “great cloud of witnesses” compassing us daily is a constant reminder to us to live righteously in this world of evil.
