Theme: ONLY IN JESUS CHRIST WILL MANKIND FIND REST
Text: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” – Matthew 11:28, 29.
Comment: True to the words of Paul the apostle in Second Corinthians chapter four verses eight and nine, “We are troubled on every side,” “perplexed”, “persecuted”, all at the instance of our common enemy, the devil. In verse 30 of Matthew chapter 11, he assures us, to wit: “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” The “rest”, he promises us, is not automatic, rather, it will come to those who are resolved to putting their hands to the plough, by associating with the truth, remaining in same, and upholding the tenets of the truth all the days of their lives, with the help of God. The “yoke” of Christ therefore, is in reference to subjecting or disciplining ourselves to live a Christ-like life, learning to emulate his virtues of perseverance, love, humanity, obedience, kindness, etc., not minding opposing circumstances, at Satan’s instance. – Philippians 1:29.
