Text: “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.” – Luke 8:11, 14.
Comment: The preacher, King Solomon, in the text for today speaks on the uncontrolled passion or quest for wealth, carnality and materialism, which if not checked, pushes one into a state of incontinence – always wanting to acquire; an insatiable urge to surpass one’s previous acquisition and to become “the talk of the town”. (Isaiah 5:8) The expression “Money answereth all things” should be understood to mean material possession, luxury, comfort, etc, which this wicked world has to offer. It is however deficient in securing anyone from God’s anger in the “Day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers”. (Ezekiel 7:19, Proverbs 11:4) We should, therefore, be godly and contented with what God has blessed us with and continue to pursue our godly objectives in His fear by His grace. – 1 Timothy 6:6; Psalm 37:16.
