Theme: FORGIVENESS

Text: “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” – Matthew 18:21, 22.

Comment: Forgiveness is usually preceded by realisation of one’s faults, regrets, repentance, apology, and resolve not to do so again (Luke 24:47; 2 Corinthians 7:10) Using the parable of the unmerciful servant to buttress his point, our Saviour Jesus Christ directed that, as long as there is repentance and apology, there should be no limit to forgiveness (Matthew 18:21-35) God Almighty freely forgives the sins of mankind, so that they may live to fear Him (Psalm 130:3, 4) Scripture says: “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again.” (Proverbs 24:16) Apostle Paul admonished: “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” – Galatians 6:1, 2.
