Text: “But he himself went on a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now O Lord, take away my life: for I am not better than my fathers”. – 1 Kings 19:4.
Comment: In the text quoted above, Elijah had just won a battle over the forces of Baal worship. The devilish wife of Ahab then sent a threatening message to him that she would kill him. He became dispirited. Elijah knew that God stood by him in that fierce struggle for supremacy. But at this moment he was disturbed by the threat of death from Jezebel. Yet his faith did not fail him; he just prayed for an exit from this wicked world by way of death in view of the relentless persecution from the devil’s agents. He was ready to die in God’s service. Nothing should separate us from the service of God. (Romans 8:35). In this story, God intervened and saved Elijah by sending an angel to feed and comfort him. When we are down psychologically, God comes through to us. We should learn from this story that God is with His people all the time, and will intervene in due course on their behalf. – Psalm 33:18,19.
