Theme: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A GOOD PERSONAL IDENTITY
Text: “For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.” – 2 Thessalonians 3: 11, 14, 15.
Comment: People are identified by their behaviours and the company they keep. Joshua and Caleb, Phinehas, Jephthah, Daniel, the three faithful Jews and Rahab the harlot, all identified by their righteousness, were favoured by God, and are fondly remembered. (Hebrews 11:1-40) Some good people suffer undeserved pains, even death because of the company they keep. Two Hundred and Fifty leaders of the Jews were consumed by fire from the LORD and swallowed up with their families by the earth because they identified with Korah, Dathan and Abiram, who rebelled against Moses and Aaron and sought to usurp authority (Numbers 16:1-35); also, King Saul was rejected by God for his rebellion (1 Samuel 15:22, 23) Some Christians are influenced by evil communications and are disorderly, causing confusion in the fold. Discipline is a way of correcting erring sheep of God who are contentious, and disorderly, so that they do not perish with the world. – 2 Corinthians 7:8-11; 1 Corinthians 11:16; 14:33, 40; 15:33, 34.
