Theme: MUSIC IN GOD'S SERVICE

Text: “…But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.” – 1 Corinthians 7:7.

Comment: David, “the Sweet Psalmist of Israel” must have been an exceptionally gifted artist, being an instrument maker, a poet, a composer, a performer, a prophet and king. A legacy of King David was the organisation of singing and music in the house of God. As the head of four thousand singers and musicians, he placed Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun with singers under them; the number of choristers was 288. (1 Chronicles 25:1-31) This magnificent choir was present at the temple for the three large annual festivals. The grandeur of the performance of the choir can better be imagined than described (1 Chronicles 23:5; 25:1, 6, 7). It is all part of God’s worship which He usually takes pleasure in. People of God are expected to use their gifts and talent to extol the Holy name of God.
