Comment: The essence of the exhortation as conveyed in Luke 17:32 is not with the intent that disciples of Christ may emulate the faithlessness, stubbornness, carnality and inconsistency of Lot’s wife, but that it should be for “our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted”, and “for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.” (1 Corinthians 10:6, 11) Earlier, our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, had drawn sundry similarities between Lot’s days and the perils of this age: “they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded”. (Luke 17:28) Those giving to high social life and licentious living, St. Paul designates as “lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God”. (2 Timothy 3:4) On the part of Lot’s wife, she made a shipwreck of her faith by “her wallowing in the mire.” (2 Peter 2:22) In order that her tragic end may not befall Christian converts, our Lord Jesus Christ warns. “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” – Luke 9:62.
