Theme: GREED

Text: “For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.” – Proverbs 1:16, 19.

Comment: The text for today shows that greed has led to so many heinous crimes such as stealing, kidnapping, killing, assassination, etc. Like the devil, the wicked readily and without qualms or hesitation kill people to enable them to steal their property.. “The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief. The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.” (Job 24:14, 15) King Solomon was quite apt when he observed the ways of the greedy person, “He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor. He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.” – Psalm 10:8, 9.

In the earlier verses of the text under reference, King Solomon warned, “My son if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without causes: let us swallow them up alive as the pit: We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: Cast in thy lot among us, let us all have one purse: My son, walk not thou in the way with them, refrain thy foot from their path…” – Proverbs 1:10-16.
