Theme: AWAKE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS AND SIN NOT

Text: “As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:14-16.

Comment: In rounding off His ordinance regulating the nature of food to be eaten by the children of Israel, God through Moses said that the essence was to “make a difference between the unclean and the clean”. Earlier, He had said “For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy, for I am holy”. (Leviticus 11:44, 45; 1 Peter 1:15, 16) God has handed down His laws to us. What He accommodates and what He hates are known to us. Concerning His statutes, He declared: “Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” – Deuteronomy 4:6.

Despite the spread of the negative effects of modernization, sincere worshippers by God’s help could still afford to stand tall among the crowd by their insistence on doing the will of God. Lot, Noah and others were able to achieve this feat by keeping themselves unspotted from the sinful world they lived in. The Bible states “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD …. Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations and Noah walked with God”. – Genesis 6:8, 9.

As obedient children, we too could strive to keep ourselves away from the pollutions of this age, bearing in mind that we have been purged from our old sins.
