Theme: OBEDIENCE OF THE RECHABITES

Text: “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.” – Philippians 2:12.

Comment: In the days of Moses, God Almighty in unequivocal terms assured the Israelites of his constant protection over them. In the text for today, God made it manifest that man was created a free moral agent but that man should be held responsible for the consequences of his choice. Hence, He admonished us to choose life when he declared: “…therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live… That thou mayest obey his voice…” (Deuteronomy 30:15, 19-20) The only alternative left to one and all is to trust in God and obey his instructions. It was Elihu who wrote in Job 36:11 thus: “If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasure” Obeying God’s instructions, therefore, leads to blessings and everlasting life by His grace. – Isaiah 26:1-4; Jeremiah 7:22, 23.
