Text: “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, …Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” – Mark 7:21-23.
Comment: Covetousness is one of those vices that defile a Christian and its fruits are lie-telling, stealing, deceit and evil thoughts. True worshippers of God must beware of covetousness because it is a form of lust or evil desire that prevents one’s prayers from being answered by God Almighty. (James 4:1-3, Psalm 66:18) Covetousness is also a sin that starts from the heart and corrupts the individual, with grave consequences. The Bible says: “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” – James 1:14, 15.
