Theme: FORGIVENESS

Text: “For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.” – Jeremiah 30:11.

Comment: God’s covenant with the nation of Israel to forgive them, to save them from the uttermost parts of the earth, and to judge their oppressors – which is available to all who believe – will surely find fulfilment when they begin to ‘serve David their king’ (i.e. Jesus Christ), but He will not leave them ‘altogether unpunished’ for all their entanglements with idol worship (Jeremiah 30:9; 46:28; Matthew 23:37-39; 1 John 5:16, 17) Realising how frail mankind is, the Prophet Jeremiah prayed for mercy: “O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.”  – Jeremiah 10: 23, 24.
